THE SYDNEY INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE
The ‘Storm Squad’
Seagrass meadows are one of the most productive ecosystems on the planet. These aquatic plants supply us with oxygen and act as carbon sinkholes, whilst providing a home for hundreds of marine species.
Unfortunately, seagrass is under threat. In NSW, a species called Posidonia is under pressure from boating activities. However, a team of incredible scientists, with a little help from the local community, have a solution to help restore this species. I shot a suite of images featuring people collecting seagrass along the shoreline for use in marketing materials. The project relies on citizen scientists picking up Posidonia sea grass washed up on the beach, which can then be replanted back in the ocean.
